New/Improved Reading The Water

Welcome,

Now we are all about family all of the time. No more work-related content, just good keen stuff.

wiki

I thought wiki was just the one encyclopedia. Now I know its a community notebook or a colaborative workspace. I like the concept and it could really be useful in the library and even in a family. I could see a family using it to collect social genealogy; family stories about different events and people. That would be fascinating, just to see how stories change.

teck rotty

Ummm. I found the top pops of tecnorati uninteresting. I think that may be an important indicator to me of something....
The concept is fine, helpful. Maybe there is more inspiring content (for me) deeper in the site. When I find time I may look.

Yum!

Delicious is something I looked at but can't say I really understand. I didn't make a membership or add anything but I did search "Aspergers" and got some interesting articles, blogs and web forums to investigate.
Learned that Silicon Valley may have the highest rate of children with autism spectrum disporders in the world and that these disorders maybe more closely linked with a child's fathers age and genetic constitution than his/her mother's. The speculation is that programming, IT and engineering attract a population, both male and female, that value many of the characterists of Autism spectrum disorders, for example, intense focus, interest in small but deep subjects, adeptness with math and science and limited social needs. Thus children are born with too much of the good thing that made their parents so successful. Weird.
I don't really see my brother in that, dispite him being an engineer. Well, I have to admit he is VERY focused. I also found out that "aspies" call the rest of us NTs (neurotypicals).
YAY! Librarything is the one thing I already had in place when this all started! I guess I'm only going to get 26 things....

a little break

I've been coasting awhile. I needed some time off from what was begining to become techno-overload. I've the next things printed out and ready to work on, Del.icio.us and Technorati. I think by Friday I'll be ready.

About MySpace

Libraries belong on Myspace or anywhere else they want to be. My only thought is that its a teen culture right now and they may not be too happy to see us...but then, they don't have to look!

Now that's very nice.

RSSSSSSSSS................................

I have been working on the rss feeds-the 7th and 8th things-on the path to my MP3 player. I find them ummm....uninspiring, well actually, that is too neutral a word. Really, its not the fault of the rss feeds. Here's the thing; I am easily overwhelmed by information, too much information is physically sickening. And how much is too much? Merely the knowledge that all that info is out there is too much. Is this a malady of the old or just the tired or perhaps the overly sensitive? It matters not, here I am, now in the possession of the information that there is even more information out there than I'd previoulsy thought; all sorts of news and blogs and reviews and information. I think that for me, a need has to be in place, the information has to be nessesary before I care to know about it. Information and technology are tools for me and I have to require/desire the tool before exploring it. But for me, not having any "favorite websites," maybe kcls.org... I don't need to organize my favorites for more efficient/effective/harmonious access, so the tool has come before the need and I find it less than rewarding. I did choose some feeds and fed them to my feed collector, but its all just feed not currently food. I do see how it could be helpful, and when I need it I'll check back into rss. For now I am respectfully overlooking them.
What a relief.
Now I will cleanse my palate with an image.

York Minster foto posted

I got the picture of York Minster from freefoto.com, which I often use for images. I have even been to York Minster and have other pictures of it. It seems I need to add pics to a folder then load them. I don't know where the url is.

Onto the 5th Thing

I am ready to delve into Flikr and photo sharing. This will be right up my alley, I believe, assuming I have any time to use it. I find that time is the hardest part, these "things" take me a while to digest and the opportunities I have to work on them is very broken, by patrons or phones or questions....all the important parts of my job! One idea I just had is to print out the directions rather than trying to read them off the blog screen. Reading from a screen is difficult for me; keeping my place and even hard on my eyes. I will go and do that now, and onto Thing 5!

2nd BLog

Now, I need to find a permanent URL or something. This is not aparent to me, and I'm not sure how it will benefit. Mostly, I just want to add lots of photos. URLs are not so interesting, if I'm understanding them correctly.
HMmmm.

First Post

Hello Friends-
This is my first official post. In it I will describe my experience with blogging thus far. It has been very exciting to have a blog. Mostly it has been a "having" without much doing. There has been lots of tweaking with colors and fonts; and that won't end soon. I still need to tweak more. But I've yet to BLOG. I wonder about the etomology of the word "blog."I will wiki that. Maybe someday I will frequently blog. I'm having a hard time picturing that! We'll see. But this is all initially a project for work. Its hard to find time at work to do it.
